Change Serial Number In Bios Hp Elitebook

i have just acquired a media centre with a dell that no longer has a keyboard. i have opened it and see that there are 6 keys on the front with a bunch of numbers ( you press the right one and it says the s/n) 3 on the left and 3 on the right. i have no idea what to enter. i will be making sure it says the s/n prior to putting the keyboard on, but any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

i got my hp elitebook 8570w from someone who needed to get rid of it. it was running xp with no password for the bios. hasn’t boot up since the bios password was removed. couldn’t find a password to it.

you can take out the cmos battery. the bios password is stored in a chip, that is removed from the mainboard, and put into the cmos battery. if you remove it, you will be able to disable the bios password, then you can remove the cmos battery, and reinsert it. (that is what i did, and it worked) then you turn on the laptop, and it will ask for the bios password. if it is disabled, the users won’t be able to see it, and make changes to it. and it will be a lot easier to make changes then trying to work out something of your own. i hope this is what you are looking for. (aside from this method)

i am using a hp 8520w laptop. when i press the delete key to install a restore disk, my laptop never restarts and goes to the bios screen. the bios screen says (password required) and i don’t know the password.

its really easy fix, it took me less than 5 minutes, and its works flawlessly. you just go to your motherboard and remove the cmos battery, than turn it back on and press the on button to see “press for setting” screen than press f2 to go back to bios screen and you will see a screen with your bios password and you can change this password to your liking.

that one is a little tricky – you have to make sure that you are using the release that matches your architecture. currently all intel macs up to and including the late 2008 imac are running mac os x 10.4.8 or the original version of 10.7 tiger. the ati chips (which is all the old ones, except the current imac and the older mac minis) run 10.3.9 (mac os x 10.9 panther). 1.remove the battery of your computer, wait a few minutes, then replace it. also make sure the computer is turned off, then close the lid and turn on. if you have the mouse device removed (bottom right) get a little more juice by using your pointer to navigate to “smb://packard/hp_bios/” to retrieve the bios version. if the bios vesion is updated then you will be able to boot the system and “ask” for a bios change password. if you already tried this, then this does not apply, sorry.. i have a hp elitebook pc duo 2400g i.e. 5820us with windows xp. i did not create any password for bios etc. though, i. ati card and fn keys and memory(1) was also included in this password. now i can not access the bios of hp elitebook duo 2400g due to which i can not adjust the brightness or any other details. how to get the password to access bios. i have found out that there are 3 passwords i can access the bios with: 1.the hard drive password. 2.the super user password. 3.the password for the hp enhanced password recovery tool. (e.g. default password is: 123) the hard drive password can be accessed by holding the option button down as you turn on the computer. once you hold the option button down you will be prompted for a hard drive password. in order to access the super user password, first, the boot password, by holding down the option key and moving the mouse to the bottom right of the computer and then use the + sign to hold down on the start button and then press enter, then select the option to change the bios defaults. press enter and then press alt-f2 to enter the bios screen, there you are able to edit the bios settings. 5ec8ef588b
